Facts About Harry Potter Series Hard to Believe
1.) JK Rowling and Harry Potter share the same birth date i.e. 31 July. After all, the protagonist ought to share something with the author, right?
2.) JK came up with the idea of dementors after suffering from the depression of her mother’s death.
She says how difficult it is to explain depression. It is different from sadness. It is the cold absence of feelings that leave a hollow inside- exactly what dementors do.
3.) JK invented the quidditch tournament after a fight with her then-boyfriend.
This is the reason why the game was shown a bit violent with the bludger trying to hit every player.
4.) Here I am presenting you the spreadsheet created by JK Rowling for the plot of her 5th part of the series: Order of Phoenix.
From the plot lines, it seems Dolores Umbridge was earlier to be named as Elvira Umbridge. You can see in the titles of the chapter, the timeline, and the specific role of each character.
5.) The director of Prisoners of Azkaban asked the trio to write an essay based on their respective characters in the film
Dan came up with a page’s essay, Emma wrote 10 pages, and Rupert wrote nothing! Just resembling their role in the movie because Ron would not care to do that, would he?
6.) The makeup artist says that the scar of the lightning bolt was applied 2000 times, and Harry has gone through 160 pairs of spectacles during the shoot of the entire series.
7.) Moaning Myrtle was an inspiration drawn out from clubs
JK told in an interview that the idea of Moaning Myrtle hit her when she realised that it is a club’s ladies bathroom where girls come and cry. Men do not do it in there. The idea was to make Harry and Ron in uncomfortable and unfamiliar territory.
8.) When Sirius Black died, Harry’s cry was muted in the movie for a reason
The screams were so heart wrenching that it made the audience on the set cry, including the director himself. To avoid getting the public affected by his screams, the moviemakers thought to mute it and let Harry’s expressions convey the pain.
9.) Peeves, the troublemaker ghost, had a role in the movie as well.
We would love to see the character of Peeves from the novel, wouldn’t we? Actor Rik Mayall has played the role of this ghost but while filming the scenes the other students kept on giggling which somehow caused troubles on the sets. This made directors cut off his role altogether. The weird reason, isn’t it?
10) The role of Harry Potter was first given to Haley Joel Osment
The film was earlier to be directed by Steven Spielberg, and his choice for the role was Haley Osment. But due to a creative clash with Rowling, he left over. The new maker of the film, Chris Columbus, decided, later on, to give the role to Dan.
11.) JK had a motive of killing Ron and his father Arthur Weasely.
But you see, there are no other “good fathers” in the series that had considerable roles. Later she thought better of it and ended up killing Remus Lupin instead.
Thankful that Ron is alive in the end.
12.) According to JK, Dumbledore was gay.
Not that it makes much difference to the role he portrayed, but in the series, he was in love with Gellert Grindelwald. In the last part, when Gellert showed his true colours, that is when Dumbledore realised how hard love can get at times. JK had this idea of making Dumbledore’s experience in love utterly tragic.
Here is the love of Dumbledore:
