The Symptoms of Very High Testosterone Level - Knowledge Board

Symptoms of Very High Testosterone Level

Testosterone is a hormone produced by the testes in men and, in smaller amounts, by the ovaries in women. There can be positive effects from slightly elevated testosterone levels in men, or there can be a negative effect from extremely high testosterone levels. Slightly elevated testosterone levels in men allow for muscles to build easily, helps keep the energy level up and contributes to a healthy libido. Testosterone levels that are too high, however, have serious negative consequences on a man’s health.

High Testosterone

Testosterone is the male sex hormone produced by testicles in the body. It is responsible for many secondary characteristics in males such as a deeper voice hair on the chest building muscle mass and maintaining energy levels.

For many men, having high testosterone causes symptoms that can affect many different aspects of health and well-being.

Testosterone is not only present in men, but is also present in women (produced by ovaries), however in low concentration.

This can usually be treated easily and catching it early minimizes the risk for other complications from Testosterone imbalances.

The Pros and Cons of High Testostrone Levels

Pros of High Testosterone:

Greatly increased protein synthesis in the muscle cells. This allows a person the ability to gain larger amounts of strength, endurance, muscle mass, muscle density, and vascularity, than what was previously possible with lower amounts of testosterone. However, these benefits can only truly be obtained with a consistent physical training program and a high-calorie diet. Sex drive is also increased. Finally, it must be noted that testosterone does NOT cause aggression in most men. However, the increased sex drive can be difficult to control lol.

Cons of High Testosterone:

Testosterone can lead to increases in blood pressure and/or pulse due to the rising estrogen levels. Estrogen can lead to water retention and the stimulation of the nervous system which is where these side effects come from. Estrogen can stimulate breast tissue in men (man boobs). Triglycerides and cholesterol can also be increased. Finally, high testosterone can lead to oily skin and acne. It can also activate the male pattern baldness gene if that runs in your family. Increased size of the prostate is also possible. These side effects are due to rising DHT levels in the body.
