Here are some facts that you might find interesting:
1. Water quality could affect your skin or hair. Hard water contains a lot of ions like calcium and magnesium that react with surfactants in cleansers not allowing them to rinse well. This worsens dry skin and causes dermatitis, acne, and eczema flare-ups.
Tip: Make sure you use lukewarm water (neither cold nor warm
water is ideal for the skin) and apply your products immediately after you have
washed your face since water dries the skin.
2. Exfoliating facial skin with tools or scrubs doesn't help
with eliminating acne scars over time. They're often too abrasive and could
damage your skin. However, they might be useful to exfoliate feet and elbows.
If you want to remove acne scars you can try
microdermabrasion. My scars were not very Alternatively If you want to safely
reduce the appearance of acne scars at home you can use chemical exfoliants
every week.
Chemical exfoliants or peel are all those products that
contain AHA acids like glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid etc.
However,If the acne scars are old and deep, you probably
need a treatment done by a professional.
3. Make-up doesn't cause acne. In fact, breakouts stem from
either applying makeup with dirty hands or brushes, or not removing makeup
completely.
The proof of this is common sense. If makeup really caused
acne, all women that use it would have acne- this is clearly not the case.
Makeup removing wipes alone isn’t enough to remove all the
makeup from your face, and cleansing the face sloppily because you’re too tired
isn’t enough either. It’s important to make sure your face is truly clean
before you go to sleep.
4. Topical cosmetic products that include collagen do not work.
Collagen can’t be absorbed through the skin. Being a protein, it’s simply too
big! So it's useless if applied topically.
5. Gold in skincare has absolutely no benefit in skincare and
is potentially harmful. Gold is added to some skincare products for marketing
purposes only. It conveys the message that the product is luxurious, hence it
justifies its price tag.
It could be harmful because gold in cosmetics is not pure!
It contains nickel and therefore can trigger allergic reactions. Nickel allergy
is one of the most common allergies.
European companies are big on testing their products for
traces of Nickel. US companies, not so much.
If you’re prone to allergies, this is something you should be
paying attention to.
6. Chemical products are not harmful, and Natural products are
not necessarily effective or better. No skincare product is ever truly natural.
Truth is, all ingredients undergo some sort of chemical processing.
7. Products with a long ingredients list are not better; in
fact, 99% of the time, they’re the worst. Diluted. Vice versa having fewer
ingredients ensures all ingredients are present in the necessary amount for
them to work.
8. Asian skincare is not better than American (US and Canada)
or European one. All those fancy sounding extracts are mostly made of water AND
there’s basically no scientific study that proves they work. Furthermore you
never really know what’s inside those products OR where they have been made-
labels are not even written in English!
If you really enjoy Asian Beauty, stick to the biggest
players like Shiseido- at least the quality is there (but I personally prefer to
support US-based businesses).
9. For healthy & youthful skin you must first master the
basics. The first thing you need to learn is how to recognize products that
work from those that are scams. This is becoming easier thanks to the internet.
However, some scammers are still out there.
The second important thing people lack is CONSISTENCY. They
switch from one product to the next one within a month (or even a week). They
sometimes leave what they bought in a drawer to collect dust. Then go around
saying “nothing works for them”.
Skincare products take time to show results, sometimes even
months! No one expects to eat healthy once or twice and lose weight- the same
applies to skincare.
10. If I could tell you JUST ONE THING it would be this one: no
skincare product will ever work unless it is complemented by a healthy
lifestyle. Sleep, proper nutrition, and exercise, are not optional! They’re
pre-requisites.
Hope this helps!
